Description
CHSURV reports the number of children ever born, to each ever-married woman, who were still living on census day (see also CHBORN). This includes all children born to a woman by all fathers, regardless of the child's current place of residence. Women were not to count adopted children or step-children.
User Note:
After removing the "not applicable" category (coded 00), to get the actual number of children surviving, users must subtract 1 from the value of CHSURV.
