Description

TRUCKS reports the number of trucks and vans regularly kept at home for use by members of the household, including company vehicles. It excludes trucks with more than one-ton capacity, those permanently out of working order, and those used only for business purposes.

Census Bureau research indicates the number of households with several trucks and/or vans was understated, while the number of households with no trucks or vans was overstated.

Comparability

This variable is only available for 1980. For 1960-1980, AUTOS reports the number of automobiles kept at home for use by household members. For the 1990-2000 samples, the ACS and the PRCS, VEHICLES reports the number of cars and trucks, combined, available to household members.
