Description
SLREC indicates whether the respondent is a 1940 or 1950 sample-line person. In 1940 and 1950, respondents whose names were recorded on specific lines on the census form (i.e., sample-line persons) were asked additional questions. In brief, sample-line questions covered the following topics: childbearing (1940 and 1950); marital history (1940 and 1950); education (1950); migration (1950); parental birthplaces (1940 and 1950); income (1950); Social Security enrollment (1940); deductions for retirement (1940); duration of unemployment (1950); weeks worked the previous year (1950); past occupation, industry and class of worker (1940 and 1950); and veteran status (1940 and 1950). If sample-line variables are used, SLWT must be employed to generate representative statistics.
In the 1940 and 1950 1% samples, usually each household contains one sample-line person. See "Sample Designs" for further information.
In the 1940 and 1950 100% databases, there were no sample-line records in Alaska or Hawaii.
