Description
SOLAR is a dichotomous variable that indicates whether or not the household unit or group quarters was part of a solar. A solar is a cluster of dwellings, specific to how dwellings were arranged in Puerto Rico at the time. Enumerators were instructed to identify a housing unit as a solar when one or more dwellings was located behind a house that faced the main street being enumerated.
