Description
VOTE indicates whether persons were denied the right to vote on grounds other than rebellion (i.e., participating in the Confederacy during the Civil War) or other crimes. This question was intended to measure whether male citizens were denied suffrage on the basis of "race, color, or previous condition of servitude"-exclusions nominally made illegal by the Fifteenth Amendment.
