Description

UOCCSTR is the original string entry for the person's "usual" occupation. Most users will prefer to use the coded variables UOCC or UOCC95, which are constructed based on UOCCSTR.

Codes

This variable is only available in the 1940 1% file. UOCCSTR is a 30-character alphabetic string variable which reports the respondent's original unedited "usual" occupation. It is used to construct the numeric variables UOCC and UOCC95. UOCCSTR specific variable codes for missing, edited, or unidentified observations, observations not applicable (N/A), observations not in universe (NIU), top and bottom value coding, etc. are provided below if applicable by Census year (and data sample if specified).
