Description

LANDOWN assesses whether or not the owner of the housing unit is also the owner (or in the process of buying) the land upon which the housing unit is located, or whether the owner of the housing unit pays rent for the land. The PUMS also identifies a third category (IPUMS code "3"), which indicates "does not pay rent for the use of the land," a response category that is not further elaborated by the census for respondents.
