Description

HCOVSUB2 indicates whether, at the time of the interview, persons had subsidized marketplace health insurance coverage. HCOVSUB2 is an original, unedited variable.

While subsidized marketplace coverage applies only to respondents with direct-purchase coverage (see HINSPUR), the ACS/PRCS did not limit who reported on subsidized marketplace coverage, so respondents with other types of healthcare coverage may also have reported having subsidized marketplace coverage. IPUMS will provide an edited version of this variable that will be comparable to the edited IPUMS health insurance variables (i.e. not labeled as "(original)"). Comparability

This variable is only available for the 2019-onward ACS and PRCS. Users should note that the ACS's measurement of health insurance differs from that of the Current Population Survey's measurement, which generally asks about coverage in the last week or year.
