Description
MARMONTH reports the month of marriage for persons who had been married "within the year." The instructions did not specify whether the reference period was the 12 months prior to the official census day of June 1, 1870, the 12 months prior to the visit by the enumerator, or within the year 1870. Respondents and enumerators might have interpreted the question any of these ways.
