NAUTO is a neighborhood characteristic which reports the ratio of households with one or more cars to the total number of households for the neighborhood (households with one or more cars / total households). The ratio ranges from .00 to .99 (decimal implied) with values rounded to the nearest decimal place.

This variable is only available for the 1970 Neighborhood Samples (U.S. and Puerto Rico). NAUTO is a 2-digit numeric variable which reports the ratio of households with one or more cars to the total number of households for the neighborhood (households with one or more cars / total households). The ratio ranges from .00 to .99 (two decimals implied) with values rounded to the nearest decimal place. NAUTO specific variable codes for missing, edited, or unidentified observations, observations not applicable (N/A), observations not in universe (NIU), top and bottom value coding, etc. are provided below by Census year (and data sample if specified).
