Description

NGINI is a neighborhood characteristic which reports the Gini index of income concentration for the neighborhood. The index ranges from .01 to .99 (decimal implied) with values rounded to the nearest decimal place. Higher values of the index indicate greater inequality in the income distribution.

This variable is only available for the 1970 Neighborhood Samples (U.S. and Puerto Rico). NFINC15 is a 2-digit numeric variable which reports the Gini index of income concentration for the neighborhood. The index ranges from .01 to .99 (two decimals implied) with values rounded to the nearest decimal place. Higher values of the index indicate greater inequality in the income distribution. NGINI specific variable codes for missing, edited, or unidentified observations, observations not applicable (N/A), observations not in universe (NIU), top and bottom value coding, etc. are provided below by Census year (and data sample if specified).
