This variable is only available for the 1970 Neighborhood Samples (U.S. and Puerto Rico). NILLITPR is a 2-digit numeric variable which reports the proportion of the neighborhood population 10 years old and over that is unable to read and write. The ratio ranges from .00 to .99 (two decimals implied) with values rounded to the nearest decimal place. NILLITPR specific variable codes for missing, edited, or unidentified observations, observations not applicable (N/A), observations not in universe (NIU), top and bottom value coding, etc. are provided below by Census year (and data sample if specified).
