Description
NPOPPOV is a neighborhood characteristic which reports the ratio of persons with income below the poverty level to the total number of persons for whom poverty status is determined in the neighborhood (persons with income below the poverty level / total population for which poverty status is determined). Poverty status is not determined for inmates of institutions, armed forces living in military barracks, college students living in dormitories or for unrelated individuals less than 14 years old. The ratio ranges from .00 to .99 (decimal implied) with values rounded to the nearest decimal place.
This variable is only available for the 1970 Neighborhood Samples (U.S. and Puerto Rico). NPOPPOV is a 2-digit numeric variable which reports the ratio of persons with income below the poverty level to the total number of persons for whom poverty status is determined in the neighborhood (persons with income below the poverty level / total population for which poverty status is determined). Poverty status is not determined for inmates of institutions, armed forces living in military barracks, college students living in dormitories or for unrelated individuals less than 14 years old.
