NVACANT is a neighborhood characteristic which reports the ratio of vacant units (year round) to the total number of units (year round) in the neighborhood (vacant units - year round / total units - year round). The ratio ranges from .00 to .99 (decimal implied) with values rounded to the nearest decimal place.

This variable is only available for the 1970 Neighborhood Samples (U.S. and Puerto Rico). NVACANT is a 2-digit numeric variable which reports the ratio of vacant units (year round) to the total number of units (year round) in the neighborhood (vacant units - year round / total units - year round). The ratio ranges from .00 to .99 (two decimals implied) with values rounded to the nearest decimal place.
