Description
RELSTR contains the original alphabetic string describing an individual's relationship to the head of household or householder. Beginning in 1880, data on household relationship was asked of every person. For a coded version of RELSTR see the variable RELATE.
RELSTR is a 50-character alphabetic string variable which describes an individual's relationship to the head of household or householder. Beginning in 1880, data on household relationship was asked of every person. For a numeric version of RELSTR see the variable RELATE. RELSTR specific variable codes for missing, edited, or unidentified observations, observations not applicable (N/A), observations not in universe (NIU), top and bottom value coding, etc. are provided below if applicable by Census year (and data sample if specified).
