SICKSTR contains the original alphabetic string description of the nature of the condition of persons suffering from an illness or temporary disability on the day of enumeration. The coded variable SICKNESS is constructed based on SICKSTR.
SICKSTR is an alphabetic string variable which reports the respondent's original unedited response for the nature of the condition of persons suffering from an illness or temporary disability on the day of enumeration. It is used to construct the numeric variable SICKNESS. SICKSTR is available only for 1880.
