Description

SPMSNAP is the imputed amount of assistance, rounded to the nearest dollar, that an SPM Unit receives from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistant Program (SNAP). Respondents to the ACS answer a question about whether their household receives SNAP benefits but not the amount of those benefits. The Census Bureau imputes that amount based on data from the Annual Social and Economic Supplement of the Current Population Survey (CPS ASEC). SPMSNAP is used, along with other non-cash variables, to calculate SPMTOTRES.

SPMSNAP is a 5-digit numeric variable that is used to calculate the Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) for a family.
