Description

SPMWIC is the imputed amount of food assistance from the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, rounded to the nearest dollar, that an SPM Unit receives. There are no questions related to WIC on the ACS questionnaire, so the Census Bureau imputes that amount based on data from the Annual Social and Economic Supplement of the Current Population Survey (CPS ASEC). For detailed information about how the Census Bureau derives this measure, please refer to the Supplemental Poverty Measure using the American Community Survey working paper.

SPMWIC is used, along with other non-cash variables, to calculate SPMTOTRES.

SPMWIC is a 4-digit numeric variable that is used to calculate the Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) for a family. SPMWIC specific variable codes for missing, edited, or unidentified observations, observations not applicable (N/A), observations not in universe (NIU), top and bottom value coding, etc. are provided below if applicable by Census year (and data sample if specified).
