Description
VETPER reports the period of military service for those individuals identified as code 2 in VET1940 (veterans and wives/widows/non-adult children of veterans).
Response categories are defined by the name of the military action (or a combination of actions), not by date (e.g., World War I, not 1917-1918).
VETPER does not include men (or the wives and children of such men) who were currently in the armed forces or who performed all their military service in the National Guard, the Reserves (Army, Navy, or Marine), Reserve Officers' Training Corps, Citizens Military Training Camp, Merchant Marine, or other branch not a part of the regular military establishment.
See VETSTAT, the screening variable for veterans variables, for more information on the types of service included in or excluded from the veterans variables.
