Description

NATIVITY indicates whether respondents were native-born or foreign-born; for native-born respondents, it indicates whether their mothers and/or fathers were native-born or foreign-born. NATIVITY is constructed from the IPUMS variables BPL, MBPL, and FBPL. Those U.S. possessions and territories classified as "U.S. outlying areas" in BPL are considered foreign. For a similar variable that identifies those who are foreign or native born in 1970 for Puerto Rico, see NATIVPR.
