Description

PUMAAREA reports the total area in the PUMA (5+ percent sample) or Super-PUMA (1 percent sample) in square meters. The area can be water or land. PUMALAND reports land area only. See also PUMA and PUMASUPR.

This variable is only available in 2000 and 2010. PUMAAREA is a 14-digit numeric variable which reports the total area in the PUMA (5+ percent sample) or Super-PUMA (1 percent sample) in square meters. Both land and water areas are included in PUMAAREA, however only land area is included in PUMALAND. PUMAAREA specific variable codes for missing, edited, or unidentified observations, observations not applicable (N/A), observations not in universe (NIU), top and bottom value coding, etc. are provided below by Census year (and data sample if specified).
