Description
The modified schedule used to enumerate American Indians contained a field labeled "Tribe of Father of this Indian." Enumerators were instructed to "...secure the name of the tribe with which the person is connected..." FTRIBE provides the tribal affiliation of the respondent's father. Mother's tribal affiliation is available in MTRIBE.
The first two digits of FTRIBE represent a general code, with the last three digits providing a detailed code. TRIBE provides tribe information for the individual.
