Description
VET41X55 indicates whether persons were engaged in active-duty military service in the armed forces of the United States between December 1941 and January 1955. It includes those on active duty in the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard during this period, and it excludes those in the National Guard and military Reserves, unless they were called to active duty.
The ACS and the PRCS defined persons currently in the armed forces as veterans.
Codes and Frequencies
Comparability
This variable is only available for 2024-onward ACS/PRCS and is fully comparable across these samples. In 1950 through 2023 samples, persons serving in the Korean conflict era are identified in the VETKOREA variable and those serving in the WWII era are identified in the VETWWII variable.
