Description

EDSIMIL is a random number assigned to all households and group quarters within a particular enumeration district. The numbers allow users to locate all sample households from the same district, although the precise location of the enumeration district is not specified. The specific geographic locations corresponding to the codes cannot be identified until the confidentially requirements are met (72 years from the date of enumeration, assuming the key to the codes still exists).

Codes

This variable is only available in the 1940 1% and 1950 samples. EDSIMIL is a 6-digit numeric variable that is randomly assigned to all households and group quarters within a particular enumeration district. The numbers allow users to locate all sample households from the same district, although the precise location of the enumeration district is not specified.
