Description

MCNY5STR is the original string entry for the county where the respondent lived 5 years ago. Most users will want to use a coded migration variable such as MIGSEA5. In the 1940 1% sample, users should be aware that the coded migration variables contain place information only for records that met the Census Bureau's confidentiality requirements when the 1940 PUMS was constructed. MCNY5TR, however, contains county information for all records that had an entry in the original data, which is about 5% more cases than MIGSEA5 identifies.
