PRCITYCO
Puerto Rican city code

Description

PRCITYCO, or "Puerto Rican city code," is a numeric variable that identifies Puerto Rican cities or pueblos. PRCITYCO identifies the pueblos of enumeration using a University of Wisconsin Survey Center (UWSC) internal coding scheme. Municipios are the primary geographical divisions in Puerto Rico. Each municipality was divided into barrios, and one or more of these barrios constituted the pueblo or town in the municipality. The town always bears the same name as the municipality.

For corresponding variables on the Puerto Rican municipios (counties) and barrios (township) codes, see PRCOUNTY (a numeric variable) and PRTWNSHP (an alphabetic variable), respectively. Also, users may want to consult PRCOUNTA, for the alphabetic version of Puerto Rican counties/municipios and COUNTYICP, for counties enumerated in the U.S. census samples from 1850-1930.
