Description
SELFWTSL indicates whether a 1940 sample-line person is contained in a self-weighting sample. Selecting cases in the self-weighting sample yields a "flat" sample that does not require weights to produce nationally representative statistics for 1940. All sample-line persons in 1950 are weighted equally and thus are all part of the self-weighting sample.
Self-weighting samples of households for 1940 and 1950 can be selected using the household-record variable SELFWTHH. See "Sample Designs" for discussion of sampling methods in 1940 and 1950.
