Description
UNITSADD reports the number of housing units located at a particular address. It is based on a different question than the related variable UNITSSTR (Units in structure). For UNITSADD, the question is, "How many living quarters, occupied and vacant, are at this address?" UNITSSTR is based on the question, "Which best describes this building," followed by a range of choices for the number of housing units. Results for the two variables may differ, because some structures have more than one street address.

This variable is fully comparable across years. Additionally, UNITSADD is roughly comparable to NUMHH (Number of Households in Dwelling), available in 1850-1880, 1900, and 1920.
