Description
UTP indicates if the household was included in the Urban Transition Historical GIS Project. Households included in the project have been assigned GPS coordinates for use in spatial analysis (XGPS and YGPS).
The Urban Transition Historical GIS Project is directed by John Logan, Professor of Sociology at Brown University. The project uses historical census data to document the state of U.S. cities from the end of the 19th Century into the early 20th Century. Households in 39 cities are geocoded in 1880. More information is available on the project website.
