Description
QUTP1 is a quality flag associated with the assignment of GPS coordinates to households recorded in XGPS and YGPS.
QUTP1 reports the number of unique street addresses associated with the household for cases included in the Urban Transition Historical GIS Project. IPUMS continued to refine household and dwelling breaks after the time when the Urban Transition Project acquired the data to begin its work. In some cases, households that originally contained individuals from multiple addresses were subsequently combined. IPUMS uses the first address entry to the entire household for the purpose of assigning GPS coordinates.
The Urban Transition Historical GIS Project is directed by John Logan, Professor of Sociology at Brown University. The project uses historical census data to document the state of U.S. cities from the end of the 19th Century into the early 20th Century. Households in 39 cities are geocoded in 1880.
