Comparability
MIGFARM1 is available only for 1950. Users should note that MIGFARM1, MIGFARM5 and FARM are residence variables and not occupation variables. Enumerators were instructed to code these variables "yes" if the household lived on a farm even if none of the individuals in the household worked on a farm. On the other hand, when a farmer and his family did not live on the farm, enumerators were instructed to code that household "no."
MIGFARM5 provides analogous information for 1940 1%, using a five-year rather than a one-year reference period.
