Description
IND5YR reports the industry of individuals who indicated they were working at a job or business five years earlier (see WORK5YR). Occupation and class of worker were also identified for these individuals (see OCC5YR and CLASS5YR).

Comparability
This variable is only available for 1970. The industrial classification system used in IND5YR is the same as that used for IND (current industry), except that the latter variable allocates the missing values into residual categories (e.g., "professional and related services - allocated") representing broad industrial groups. All missing values in IND5YR are given the same code (999, "Industry not reported").
