MOUNEMP reports the number of months, out of the previous twelve, that a person who stated an occupation (i.e., those who ordinarily worked) had been unemployed.

This variable is comparable across years. Only the 1900 instructions defined unemployed-as "unable to secure work of any kind."
WKSUNEMP reports weeks of unemployment during the previous calendar year, for 1910 and 1980.
