Comparability
This variable is comparable across years. Only the 1900 instructions defined unemployed-as "unable to secure work of any kind."
WKSUNEMP reports weeks of unemployment during the previous calendar year, for 1910 and 1980. The IPUMS variable QTRUNEMP facilitates comparison between WKSUNEMP and MOUNEMP, by recoding information from both variables into 13-week quarter years.
Universe
- Persons who reported an occupation. Not available in the 1880 100% database.
