PREDAPI
Asian/Pacific Islander race response predicted value

Description

For non-Hispanic respondents who reported Asian and/or Pacific Islander and another federally defined race in the 2000 census, 2010 census, or the ACS, PREDAPI represents the results of an equation predicting whether they would have reported only their Asian and/or Pacific Islander race group if asked for a single-race response. Non-Hispanic people reporting only “some other race” may be allocated a non-zero value of PREDAPI.

PREDAPI ranges between 0 and 1. Non-Hispanic single-race Asians, Non-Hispanic single-race Pacific Islanders, and non-Hispanic people reporting Asian and Pacific Islander have a value of 1 for PREDAPI. People who reported Asian and/or Pacific Islander and “some other race” also have a value of 1 in accordance with the procedure described in Ingram, et al. (2003). Other single-race respondents and Hispanic Asian and/or Pacific Islander people have a value of 0 for PREDAPI.

For every person, the sum of PREDAPI, PREDAI, PREDBLK, PREDHISP, and PREDWHT is 1.0. The highest of these values determines the value of RACHSING. For an explanation of how these variables are calculated, see RACHSING.
