PREDBLK
Black/African American race response predicted value

Description

For non-Hispanic respondents who reported Black/African American and another federally defined race in the 2000 census, 2010 census, or the ACS, PREDBLK represents the results of an equation predicting whether they would have reported only their Black/African American race group if asked for a single-race response. Non-Hispanic people reporting only “some other race” may be allocated a non-zero value of PREDBLK.

PREDBLK ranges between 0 and 1. Non-Hispanic single-race Black and African American people have a value of 1 for PREDBLK. People who reported Black/African American and “some other race” also have a value of 1 in accordance with the procedure described in Ingram, et al. (2003). Other single-race respondents and Hispanic Black/African American people have a value of 0 for PREDBLK.

For every person, the sum of PREDBLK, PREDAI, PREDAPI, PREDHISP, and PREDWHT is 1.0. The highest of these values determines the value of RACHSING. For an explanation of how these variables are calculated, see RACHSING.
