PREDWHT
White race response predicted value

Description

For non-Hispanic respondents who reported White and another federally defined race in the 2000 census, 2010 census, or the ACS, PREDWHT represents the results of an equation predicting whether they would have reported only their White race group if asked for a single-race response. Non-Hispanic people reporting only “some other race” may be allocated a non-zero value of PREDWHT.

PREDWHT ranges between 0 and 1. Non-Hispanic single-race White people have a value of 1 for PREDWHT. People who reported White and “some other race” also have a value of 1 in accordance with the procedure described in Ingram, et al. (2003). Other single-race respondents and Hispanic White people have a value of 0 for PREDWHT.

For every person, the sum of PREDWHT, PREDAI, PREDAPI, PREDBLK, and PREDHISP is 1.0. The highest of these values determines the value of RACHSING. For an explanation of how these variables are calculated, see RACHSING.
