Description

USARESID is a dichotomous variable that indicates whether or not the respondent had lived in the United States for the duration of six months or more during the last 5 years (for the 1970 sample) or 10 years (for the 1980 and 1990 samples).

See also the related variables: USAYRRET, which provides the year of return to Puerto Rico for those respondents who had lived for six months or more in the United States, USADURR, which indicates the length of stay for those respondents who had resided in the United States for six or more months during the preceding five year or ten-year period, and USACTIV, which indicates the main activity (military, work, school, etc.) of respondents who had resided in the United States for six months or more during the preceding five-year or ten-year period.

Apart from slight changes to the period of reference between the 1970 sample (five years) and the 1980 and 1990 samples (ten years), USARESID is comparable across samples.
