Description

OCC0050 preserves in its entirety the effort of the 1900 sample creators to recode 1900 occupations into the 1950 classification system. Most of what appears in OCC0050 also appears in the 1900 portion of OCC1950 (Occupation, 1950 basis), but OCC0050 preserves some detail that could not be manageably incorporated into OCC1950. This detail resulted from the 1900 sample creators' addition of subcategories to the 1950 classification system that was not originally part of that system.

OCC0050 is a 4-digit numeric variable which preserves in its entirety the effort of the 1900 sample creators to recode 1900 occupations into the 1950 classification system. Most of what appears in OCC0050 also appears in the 1900 portion of OCC1950 (Occupation, 1950 basis), but OCC0050 preserves some detail that could not be manageably incorporated into OCC1950. OCC0050 specific variable codes for missing, edited, or unidentified observations, observations not applicable (N/A), observations not in universe (NIU), top and bottom value coding, etc. are provided below if applicable by Census year (and data sample if specified).
