MLP Census Crosswalk Files: Older Versions

The MLP crosswalks contain HISTIDs that link persons between census years. They are intended for use with IPUMS data extracts. See the user guide. The main attributes of the different versions are described in the version history.

The version 1.2 crosswalks include a STEP variable that identifies the stage of the linking process in which the link was made.

Crosswalk Version 1.1

Released March 2023, replaced April 2024.

Census-to-census pairings:

HIK crosswalk. A single census crosswalk file organized by HIK (Historical Identification Key), with associated HISTIDs across all census years. This is the first version of MLP with HIKs:

Crosswalk Version 1.0

In addition to the HISTIDs needed to perform the linking operation, the version 1.0 crosswalks contain some basic variables applying to each census in the pairing.
