State ICPSR codeDescription
STATEICP reports the state in which the slave holding was located using the coding scheme developed by the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). The ICPSR scheme orders states first by geographic division and then alphabetically within each division.
Territories and West Virginia are coded to their future state equivalents.
