OCC AND OCCSOC: Codes for Occupation (OCC) and SOC Occupation (OCCSOC) in the 2000 Census and the ACS/PRCS Samples from 2000 Onward

(Back to Occupation SOC Description)
(Back to Occupation and Industry Variables Index)

This table presents OCC codes and the corresponding OCCSOC codes for the 2000 Census and the ACS/PRCS Samples from 2000 onward using the following coding system:

  • 2000-2009 ACS/PRCS samples used the 2000 SOC codes
  • 2010-2017 ACS/PRCS samples used the 2010 SOC codes
  • 2018-onward ACS/PRCS samples used the 2018 SOC codes

In some cases, SOC occupation codes are aggregated if they do not have an exact match to a Census occupation code or to preserve confidentiality in cases where the category contained fewer than 10,000 people nationwide (Lauger, Wisniewski, & McKenna, 2014).

This crosswalk is also available in Excel format and CSV format with and without descriptions of change. The descriptions of change document in further detail the code changes that occurred between each set of sample years.
